From a young age, art has been my passion. It’s always been in my blood—a subject that came naturally to me. I could see perspective in buildings, the intricate play of shadows in trees, and the structure behind every object. These early observations, coupled with a child’s sponge-like ability to absorb information, laid the foundation for my journey to becoming a professional artist.
At just ten years old, my parents gave me my first watercolour set—a gift that sparked a lifelong love for the medium. I taught myself to paint through trial and error, learning by doing and gradually developing a distinctive style. My work strikes a balance between looseness and detailed focal points, perfect for drawing the viewer’s eye. Landscapes, seascapes, and animals are some of my favourite subjects, and I’ve always been inspired by painting from life.
In 1997, I began teaching watercolour painting, starting with local classes in Langwith, Derbyshire. Over time, this evolved into workshops, UK-wide demonstrations, and painting holidays. Today, I’m privileged to teach over 200 artists every week. My teaching led to collaborations with the Society for All Artists (SAA), where I filmed DVDs and presented TV series like Paint Along with Matthew Palmer and A Splash of Paint.
As an author, I’ve published over ten books, with global sales exceeding 400,000 copies. My books, translated into multiple languages, are bestsellers that inspire artists around the world.
